Thanks for visiting us! This is our family blog about seasonal food, cooking and entertaining for family and friends. We think this stuff is important. Sharing food and drink together makes us civilized, we should do it well and with understanding.
Do we have a farm? Sort of. We have a garden, orchard, berry patch and bees. We grow about 50 fruits, veggies and herbs every year. We do not sell any produce but do trade with friends. We also have plenty of varmints trying to steal our goodies!
You will see food and cocktail recipes, gardening updates, strong opinions on entertaining, notes on good kitchen gear and the occasional cookbook or TV show review. Our kids will also chime-in occasionally. We hope you enjoy the blog, please share and comment!
If you need to reach us directly please try stewartbputney[at}gmail[dot]com.
Way to go Stewart! The cocktails look great.
Thanks! Try them out if you have the time- fun stuff.
This all looks fantastic!! But that’s not a surprise, you are both amazing cooks and superb hosts. 🙂
Thanks- please share with friends!
Amazing blog !! can’t wait to order and try some of the bacon !! M and Gr D
Hello Carolyn and Stuart – Russell and I are very excited about your blog and have tuned in. We are about to try the salad with fennel and leeks. But the cocktails beckon!
Ann
Thanks Ann! The cocktails are worth a try. All feedback is welcome! Hope you are well!
Wish I hadn’t read this the day I rashly decided to give up alcohol mid-week! Awesome site – the tagline’s untoppable and I like your philosophy as per your ‘about’ page. Oh, and we have an owl living actually in our roof, (yes, it’s that old and gappy) so there’s another thing we have in common 😉
We will be including some non-boozy drinks as well soon.
Thanks for the kind words and reading the blog. YOur photo of the surf in Asturias is amazing- those waves look great!
Aw thanks! I’m already looking forward to your non-boozy drinks (as well as your other instalments!)
You guys are AMAZING! I just nominated you for the Kreativ Blogger Award. (and a big thank you for the Sunshine nomination) I love all that you do, and can only imagine and dream of how delicious your family dinners must be!
Your blog is a highlight for me, especially the weekly cocktail recipes. Any chance of doing a post on “Bitters”. Most people only think of “Angostura aromatic bitters” but I’m told this isn’t even a true “bitter”.
Thanks- I will have a post on bitters coming up. It is an interesting subject that is getting a lot af attention.
Thanks again for reading!
I’m so in love with your blog! Thanks for visiting mine. See ya again soon! 🙂
Thanks! We are fans of your blog as well (Blueberries and margaritas are both faves around here…)
Everything here looks great; the cocktails, the food, fruits and vegetables. Nice blog!
Thanks!
Love a good cocktail with great food. You should check out my homemade cheese on my blog. I’m currently aging a white cheddar and can hardly stand looking at the waxed wheel in the fridge without wanting to cut ‘er open! Cheese, homemade cocktail and wine…heaven on earth. Now pair it with some homemade Italian or French bread and you’re in business. Love the blog.
Thanks. Funny, but we were thinking about cheesemaking at home- we will check it out.
Thanks for reading!
a must try…so easy. here are two sites to definitely look into. one is a great company and the second is a science nerd from ohio that i just adore!
http://www.cheesemaking.com
http://biology.clc.uc.edu/Fankhauser/Cheese/Cheese.html
let me know how you fare with the cheese. going to tackle parm next ‘cuz i need something to go with my homemade italian borolo. will attempt your cocktails first!
Perfect- thanks!
Hello 🙂 Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on my blog and for the follow! You have a terrific blog – can’t wait to look some more! You aren’t by any chance located in Vermont are you? Just curious … I grew up in Vermont and wasn’t too far from Putney Vermont. Have a great day!
Thanks. Enjoying your blog.
We are in California, but are very familiar with Putney Vermont.
You’re living my dream of growing my own vegetables! Someday I’ll achieve it. Even if for now I can manage to kill even mint. MINT. My green thumb is definitely lacking.
Growing your food is rewarding (but there are failures).
You can have our mint…in fact it may be spreading all the way to mexico by now…
Thanks for reading..

Hey mate can you give us 5 cocktail recipes from the 1950s. We are doing an event and wanted to have 5 cocktails on the menu which were made based on 1950s recipes?
Hi. Moscow Mule, Vesper Martini, Blue Hawaii, Mai Tail and Margarita are all drinks either invented or became popular during the 1950’s. All recipes are on CocktailDB and most have easily found ingredients…hope this helps!
Great blog 🙂 I would love to have a sort of farm like you one day 🙂

Su blog es muy hermoso, y es en realidad lo que sueño ser y tener: una granja con mi familia. Disfrútenla! Saludos y buena suerte!
Thanks!
I also have a big garden with lots of varmints. (It’s like Wild Animal Kingdom at night). I’m always looking for new ways to use my produce. Nice blog.
Thanks for the visit…like your blog as well..
Like your blog what I have read so far on handicapped/dialup Internet. Which Putney Farm? I lived in the Putney School Farm milk house around 1970 for a while. About the eggplant concoction, in a Lyons France restaurant enjoyed aubergine caviar, that is, caviar-like food made from eggplant. According to the book Around the Roman Table similar faked foods were common 2,000 years ago. Last week I thought, WTH, cooked up lambsquarter with the seed/flower buds and got the same crunchy texture as caviar. A new ingredient for eggplant caviar!
Really loving your blog- full of great fresh produce which is fantastic 🙂

Thanks!
Love this food blog! I work at company called Tivamo and something like this would be great. Check out tivamo.com- let’s get in touch!
Brilliant. As a farm girl that has very recently moved to London, its certainly nice to know there are some other city dwellers out there with a similar mindset! We have a great veg garden at home and our meals frequently consist of veg and meat entirely from the fields and garden so i cant agree enough.. seasonal, fresh is best!
Thanks for the visit! And thanks for the kind words…
Love your blog! 🙂
Good to meet you. You are most welcome to visit my blog whenever you get the chance to. 🙂
Wow, fortunate that you can grow your own 🙂
