….please forgive the obscure Game of Thrones reference (think House Tyrell). But our garden is growing strong, indeed. The hot and dry winter left us without cherries (not enough chill hours) and with withered greens. But our spring onions and potatoes were a delight and the blueberries and strawberries are simply amazing…and plentiful. No complaints.
It is our tomatoes that are truly growing strong, we practically have a tomato thicket. Frankly, we can’t wait. And along with tomatoes, our other warm weather plants like the eggplant, peppers and raspberries all look like they will have a very good summer. That means we will have a good summer.
Oh, and don’t even get us started on the apples, peaches and figs. They look good so far and we hope we can keep the varmints off them until late summer. It is a 50/50 shot at best…but hope springs eternal.
It will all come together. Have you tried coyote urine for the varmints. My grandfather used to collect cigar butts and make a spray with that. The raccoons love my figs. We have a huge dog that loves raccoons.
We will try anything. And we do have coyote urine…from the coyotes (they are part of our “varmint” contingent…;-)
Don’t coyotes go after the smaller prey and stay away from your vegetables?
They don’t like the veggies, but they will eat the fruit in the orchard. And yet the rats and squirrels go after the fruit anyway (I guess it is worth the risk).
Your garden looks lush to me, particularly the strawberry. I wish that I could keep a hive there!
Our bees are happy this year (not so good last year) we are hoping for the best…
I just found out there is a GOT cookbook and recipe blog today! http://www.innatthecrossroads.com/ Your garden looks beautiful. Nice work!
Thx for the link- we will have to check it out…
Lovely and inspiring!
Thx!
So glad to hear your garden growing well! Our tomatoes are not quite so far along but we’re keeping fingers crossed, varmint-wise, too. 🙂
Thx- we just ate our first sungolds yesterday…at least the drought has some upsides…
Looks like a bumper crop coming at you!
Getting there!
A garden filled with promise. 🙂
Indeed (and hope springs eternal…)
and your photographs are lovely!
Thx- nature does most of the work….
Blueberries (O’Neil) are fabulous now here (Central VA) too.
I have coined a new phrase…instead of the old standby…” from garden to table” the new phrase is “from plant to mouth” as the blueberries rarely get to the kitchen as many other garden treasures. How about you? Diane
Same here! We eat them right from the shrub….same for the strawberries.
Lovely produce. There’s nothing like eating produce picked minutes ago.
Agreed!
